Photography and Photo Retouching

The Project:

Photograph the OQO model 2+ computer, and retouch it for print and web.

My Role:

With the first units delivered just a short time before a major trade show, we didn't have the time or budget to have them sent out to a studio to be photographed. I did the photography in house and did the retouching. Retouching included overlaying an illustrator vector file of the keyboard onto the photo to get the nighttime glow. The photos came out great and were featured in major publications including the Wall Street Journal.

The Project:

Photograph tea samples for use on Pacifica Tea's website and business collateral.

My Role:

I photographed the tea samples in my home studio. While I have worked for big clients with big budgets, I also work for very small businesses and relish the challenge of giving them great photos within their budget.

The Project:

At Igigi, a plus-size fashion design and retail business, all the jewelry and accessories were photographed in house.

My Role:

I photographed the pieces using natural light from the huge, east-facing windows in the office. It was a bit of a challenge not having any lighting equipment, but I used a couple of large, white foam-core boards to direct light and diffuse shadows, and also did extensive retouching.

I really enjoyed both the photographing and the retouching. The challenge at Igigi was the incredible volume of work. They released a new collection of clothing and accessories every six weeks. That meant a professional photo shoot with models for the catalog images, retouching front, back and side images of every dress, the graphic designers photographing the accessories and retouching those, plus emails and social media posts...it was quite a busy place.

The Project:

Take photographs at concerts and events for SomaFM's website and social media.

My Role:

Photographer. Thanks to SomaFM, and my own willingness to arrive early and/or push through crowds, I've had the opportunity to get close to the action at many music festivals, concerts, conferences and other events. We use these photos on twitter, facebook, instagram and on the website.

The Project:

Catalog photo shoot

My Role:

Director. Igigi released a new collection every six weeks. I had to make sure all the products were there, as well as all the people (model, stylist, assistant, photographer), then make sure we stuck to the schedule. Though we had many dresses to get through in a short time we also had to maintain a fun, upbeat vibe throughout the day so the photographer and model could do their best work. I had to watch the photos as they rolled in (digital photos on a monitor) and decide when we'd gotten the shots and could move on to the next dress.

When we finally wrapped, I had to go back to the office with the hard drive full of photos and begin retouching the products that would be launched the next day.

The Project:

My fine art photographs of Reykjavik, Iceland were featured in Volume 13 of (t)here magazine.

Illustration

The Project:

Create illustrations of golf sportswear and accessories for catalogues and line sheets for Difini Sportswear.

My Role:

I photographed the sample pieces and used those photographs as the basis for technical illustrations, which I did in Adobe Illustrator. The line sheet is a kind of bare-bones catalog for wholesale buyers, so the clothes have to be very accurately represented.

The Project:

Create a logo for Deep Space One, an internet radio station on SomaFM.

My Role:

I've done many of the logos for SomaFM stations, some a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator, and some pure Illustrator illustrations. Deep Space One is one of my favorites. It looks great at every size and really captures the chill vibe of the station. The music is a soundtrack for deep space exploration, both inner and outer.

The Project:

Create a new header image for the League of Women Voters of California website

My role:

They wanted an image that featured the capitol building in Sacramento, other than that, it was up to me. This had to look good at any size, therefore, needed to be simple so details weren't lost when it is small.

Charts and Graphs

The Project:

Create charts and graphs in Excel, Illustrator, and Powerpoint

My Role:

I've created many different kinds of charts and graphs for use in reports, posters, white papers, etc. ranging from very basic to very complicated and data intensive.
